HOME AGRICULTURE ARCHITECTURE EDUCATION

The goal of our agriculture program is to design and test systems to feed a community sustainably. This includes work in nutrition, soil fertility, grazing systems, vegetable and grain production, and greenhouse growing. Economically, we try to create systems that pay for themselves with healthy food, healthy people, and a small amount of income- rather than systems that can compete in the globalized capital intensive food system.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

Watershed restoration

In 2006 we received a grant from the EPA and New Mexico Environment Department to do watershed restoration work in our valley. We have completed several erosion control structures and educational programs in addition to writing a Watershed Restoration Action Strategy. Click here to download the pdf of our WRAS.

Feed a family

We are currently working on a small farm design and nutrition plan which will entirely feed a family year round on about 6 acres of irrigated land. Our family has been decreasing the amount of food we need to buy from the store each year. And one year soon we plan to try eating 95% off of the farm for one year.

We have also been conducting educational programs in sustainable agriculture
